The profiles of angiology and vascular surgery academic leagues and their effectiveness in specialty education
Conclusions The angiology and vascular surgery academic leagues in the state of S ão Paulo all function in a similar manner, but the range of theoretical, practical and scientific activities they offer are not uniform. For the sample investigated, the academic leagues appear to be effective at teaching angiology and vascular surgery during undergraduate courses.

Early Vascular Ageing in adolescents with migraine with aura: a community-based study
CONCLUSIONS: In line with previous large-scale studies in adults, we could not demonstrate relevant associations of migraine with aura with markers of arterial stiffness or subclinical atherosclerosis making early vascular ageing an unlikely pathophysiological link between migraine with aura and cardiovascular diseases.TRIAL REGISTRATION: First registered on ClinicalTrials.gov 29/04/2019 (NCT03929692).PMID:37528337 | DOI:10.1186/s12872-023-03409-2

Vascular Health in American Football Players: Cardiovascular Risk Increased in Division III Players.
This study aimed to compare vascular and cardiovascular health measures between football players and nonathlete controls. Twenty-three athletes and 19 nonathletes participated. Vascular health measures included flow-mediated dilation (FMD) and carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT). Cardiovascular measures included clinic and 24 hr BP levels, body composition, VO2 max, and fasting glucose/cholesterol levels. Compared to controls, football players had a worse vascular and cardiovascular profile. Football players had thicker carotid artery IMT (0.49 ± 0.06 mm versus 0.46 ± 0.07 mm) and larger brachial artery d...

Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency: A Look at Electronic Residency Application Service Applicant Numbers and National Residency Matching Program Match Outcomes
In this study, we sought to identify the top U.S. domestic medical schools guiding seniors into 0+5 vascular surgery programs and ascertain which characteristics of their faculty and curriculum might be responsible for fostering this interest.

Non-invasive Peripheral artery disease screening tools: A deficient knowledge among French vascular residents from four medical schools
Ankle-brachial index (ABI) at rest, Post-exercise ABI and Toe-Brachial Index (TBI) are essential diagnostic tools recommended for peripheral artery disease (PAD) diagnosis. Our study investigates the level of knowledge on these three tests among vascular medicine residents from four French medical schools in France.

The associations of body composition and anthropometric measures with carotid intima-media thickness in obese and non-obese schoolchildren: A possible predictor for cardiovascular diseases.
Conclusions Obesity is related to greater carotid intima-media thickness and other cardiovascular risk factors among schoolchildren. Waist circumference is more sensitive in predicting increased carotid intima-media thickness than other body composition or anthropometric measures. Waist circumference measurement in the analysis of future studies assessing the cardiovascular risk among obese children is warranted. PMID: 28959914 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Representation of women in vascular surgery science and societies
Medical schools and surgical residencies have seen an increase in the proportion of female matriculants, with 30% of current vascular surgery trainees being women over the past decade. There is widespread focus on increasing diversity in medicine and surgery in an effort to provide optimal quality of patient care and the advancement of science. The presence of gender diversity and opportunities to identify with women in leadership positions positively correlates with women choosing to enter traditionally male-dominated fields.

Adolescents: behavior and cardiovascular risk
Conclusions It was found that abdominal fat and being male were important cardiovascular risk factors in adolescents. Considering that modifiable risk factors were present, preventive measures aimed at lifestyle changes are essential.

Social and environmental effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on children
CONCLUSIONS: It is noteworthy that most studies published to date used a cross-sectional design and applied online screening questionnaires. The few studies with a longitudinal design suggest that these changes may have been transitory and more prevalent at the beginning of the pandemic.PMID:34571018 | PMC:PMC8463108 | DOI:10.1016/j.jped.2021.08.003
